I’ve said it before in other blog posts and I’ll say it again: my natural hair is super dry. Not only is it dry, I sometimes get dandruff, which is a clear indicator that I need to up my moisture game.
Now, I will say my dandruff is NOTHING like it used to be when I had a chemical relaxer, but still, ewww. Well, Head & Shoulders the company that has provided products for dry, itchy scalp for years have come out with a line designed for textured hair. The new line is called moisture care and I had an opportunity to check it out.
Let me say that it’s been years since I’ve used Head & Shoulders, but knowing their track record of handling flakes I was excited to try the system. The collection includes a shampoo, 2 in 1, co-wash and scalp soother.
I’m so glad I got the products in time for my wash day because my hair was looking a hot, dry mess! See exhibits A and B:
I used a half-dollar sized amount of the 2 in 1 to wash my hair. I did three washes just to make sure I got all the product build-up and flakes out of my hair. Even though the main ingredients of the system contain vitamin E rich almond oil, coconut essence and dandruff-fighting ingredient zinc pyrithione (ZPT) it doesn’t smell like medicine. It actually smelled pretty pleasant with the slight hint of coconut.
After washing I put the thick and creamy co-wash in. I love the texture of the co-wash because it worked well as a detangler for my thick hair. I’m kind of on the fence about co-washing. Co-wash, short for conditioner washes, have emerged as one of the alternatives to traditional shampooing and conditioning on days when you want to omit shampoo. Co-washes cleanse, but I don’t know, I guess I’m old school and prefer the squeaky-clean feeling of shampoo.
Once my hair was towel-dried I used the scalp soother to add moisture to my hair. I love that the applicator goes directly on my scalp and it has a tingling sensation due to peppermint being one of the ingredients. You just rub it in from root to tip and let it do its magic.
I decided to do a twist-out on my hair, which is my go-to protective style during the winter.
I swear this is one of the better twist-outs I’ve done. I did them thicker than normal and will probably stick with that method.
I was ready to hit the town with flake-free, moisturized hair! I’m looking forward to using it again on my next wash day to keep the flakes away.
