Contrary to retailers belief, Black Friday is STILL a thing. Check out my rant/letter I wrote about it.
If you don’t want to tackle the crowds, fight for parking spaces, or just want to keep your dollars in your own community, I’ve compiled a list of local/small businesses that will be offering deals on Black Friday. I try to shop local when I can, and with these deals I’m sure I can find something for myself and people on my Christmas list.
Selective Seconds: This South side consignment shop will be open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. (great for the non early birds). Shop while you sip on hot cider and nosh on cookies. Oh, you can also spin a wheel for additional discounts. I’ve shopped here a couple of times and have yet to be disappointed. The owner and staff are awesome and the deals are sweet!
Once Upon A Child (Carmel location): Save up to 75 percent on the already discounted gently used children’s items. The store will open at 8 a.m.
The Toggery: The consignment shop located in Broad Ripple calls their sale the “biggest sale of the year.” On Friday and Saturday take 40 percent off everything. I haven’t shopped there in a while, but I do remember them having a great selection at affordable prices. Please note you need this coupon to get the discount.
Carmel City Center: I’ve always felt like Carmel City Center is a hidden gem in the Carmel area. It’s cute, quaint and there are several local shops and restaurants to choose from. On Black Friday, a few of them will be offering deals, here’s the list:
14 Districts Weekend: Get a faux fur scar with any purchase over $150.
beauty+grace: From 8 a.m. to noon, the store will offer 35 percent off merchandise excluding jewelry. From noon to 8 p.m. take 25 percent off everything excluding jewelry. Early birds can nibble on donuts and sip mimosas while they shop.
The Bike Line: Take 30 percent off all in-stock apparel, including Assos (regularly priced merchandise only), 20 percent off in-stock Park Tools and 50 percent off select sale merchandise (see stores for selection).
Carmel Tailoring & Alterations: Off-the-rack suits will be 30 percent off and all accessories will be 50 percent off. Receive a free shirt and tie with order of designer custom suit. The store is also offering $100 off your $1,000 or more purchase.
Fishman Fine Jewelers: Shoppers will receive a Diamond Class Gift Card for use in the new year. The class includes examination of your diamonds and the jewelers, discussion of origin and evaluation in intimate cocktail-style gallery setting. There will also be complimentary champagne and hors d’oeuvres.
House of Z: 40% off everything (exclusions apply). All balance boards $375 (Reg $450) and Freshly Picked shoes $45 (Reg $60).

Silver Door Boutique Spa: Buy one gift certificate, get 1 for 25 percent off.
Profyle Boutique: The boutique located in the Ironworks at Keystone building will offer 50 percent off everything except accessories, Vika, Jeri Malone, R&F and special orders. They have cute clothes for work and play.
Simply Chic: All three locations of this women’s consigment shop will offer 70 percent off specially marked blue-tag items. If you can’t make it on Friday, don’t worry the deals last all weekend.
Clowes Memorial Hall: Save 25 to 50 percent off select holiday performances held at the theatre. The sale begins at 10 a.m. on Black Friday and ends at 10 p.m. on Nov. 30. You can see which shows and purchase tickets here. Use CMHFamily when ordering online or at the box office.
Do you plan on shopping local/small for Black Friday? There’s definitely some deals I’m thinking about on my list.
